Common questions

Why does the app keep saying "Limit uncertain – check road signs"?

SpeedWise only displays a limit when its confidence is high or medium. Until the app has imported road data for your region, or when the GPS signal is poor, it intentionally falls back to that prompt. The app is currently piloted on Brittany only — coverage of the rest of France is being expanded.

Why does it need "Always" location access?

So the Live Activity on your lock screen can keep updating while your iPhone is locked and you are driving. The app does not track you when the Live Activity is not active and does not share your location with anyone other than the SpeedWise backend.

Does SpeedWise work in CarPlay?

SpeedWise displays through the iOS Live Activity surface, which is mirrored on CarPlay dashboards. There is no separate CarPlay-app entitlement; the Live Activity is the glanceable surface.

How accurate is the penalty estimate?

Penalty bands come from Service-Public.fr "Vitesse au volant". SpeedWise is a prototype and the figures shown are estimates. Always check the current French law and follow posted road signs. SpeedWise is not legal advice.

How do I delete my data?

There is no account to delete and the backend stores no long-term association between you and your queries. Server-side HTTP access logs are deleted after 30 days. To request deletion of anything specific, write to the email above. See the privacy policy for details.

How do I uninstall?

Long-press the SpeedWise icon on your home screen and choose "Remove App". This removes the app, its data, and any active Live Activity.
